Learning to Paint

I started oil painting last fall after I was fortunate enough to be given some oil paints.  It is something I always wanted to play with.  This is one of four I managed to sqeeze time in for before the snow fell.  I am looking forward to spring and learning more and more.

From the Days of Slides

I believe these were all shot on Fuji Sensia 100, although I also used Provia and Velvia as well. They were scanned on an Epson 2400.

"Low Tide"
Canon A2, 24mm, Fuji Sensia
This was shot at Five Islands Provincial Park
Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia during low tide.

"Monarch"
Minolta X-700, 100mm Macro, Fuji Sensia
I followed this butterfly around the milkweed blossoms for half an hour before finally getting two shots. Hand held from about four feet away.

"Pink Lady's Slipper at Sunset"
Minolta X-700, 100mm Macro, Fuji Sensia
Taken shortly before sunset on a still, autumn evening in Muskoka, Ontario

Winter Monochromes

Without light there is no colour.  It is not that that we just don't see colour; there isn't any.  This is because the colour we see is a reflection of a portion of the light spectrum.  Green grass reflects the green portion of the spectrum while absorbing the rest of the colours.
This doesn't mean however, that when there is light there are a lot of colours, as seen here in these winter shots.  They are not black and white with tones, but full colour.  The low, early morning light with two primary tonal values, light and dark, help create the monochrome effect.

A New Year. Already.

After recently been made aware that a visitor could only leave a comment if they were a member of google, I have changed the settings so that anyone can leave a comment, so please do.

I have decided not to include the location of the photos as most viewers will not be familiar with the area. Most shots however were taken in the Muskoka area of Ontario Canada.  If you would like to know the exact road, or name of waterfall please ask.
